On Thursday 19th of September, 6pm-8pm, upstairs at LaDeDa Bar in Belconnen, we are launching our new SERIOUS SERIES with a serious event for serious young writers over the age of 18.

Managing Editor of Giramondo Publishing, Alice Grundy, and author of the The Hunt for Pierre Junior trilogy with Harper Voyager, David Henley, are industry people with a literary magazine of their own: Seizure. The pair are coming to Canberra to talk with 15 young writers. Why is this important? Meeting the people who run journals and publishing houses gives you the opportunity to get to know someone who usually sits in an office in Sydney. These guys know their bleep. Welcome to Pep Talk: Writers and Editors Don’t Give Up

This is not a panel! This is not Alice and David talking at you. Here’s what they have to say about the meet up:

‘We often find there is just one or two sticking points for writers and artists looking to take that next career step, or finish the next big project. It could be a tiny little knowledge gap or you just need some honest feedback you can’t get at home. This is an open room where you can talk about where you are up to and get helpful and practical advice. No recording, no tweeting.’

You can be at any stage of a story or a piece of work. You might be interested in learning about what an editor does, how to land an internship or submit to a journal: for two hours, you’ll have your chance to break into the industry, and meet other seriously serious young writers.

Entry is free. To get yourself a place on the night, email writetoscissorspaperpen@gmail.com and tell us why you want to attend the session. Any reason is a good one, we just want to give our guests a heads up. Places are subsidised by us, drinks are subsidised by you.

This event is supported by Haha/LaDeDa Bar
